Valentine’s Day… During a Pandemic

Sigh. I know. Another holiday, another post on how to celebrate it during a pandemic.

The good news is that more and more, there is reliable information on COVID-19 from trusted public health sources, such as the VDH, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or the World Health Organization and there are reasons to be confident that 2022 will be a much better year than 2021. The recent vaccination rates (as of February 7, 2022) show that some countries have really stepped up.  ( https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations )

We’re getting closer to celebrating holidays the way we used to. But we’re not quite there yet. So until then…

Valentine’s Day

Yes, once again, we are limited to what we can do, where we can go, and subsequently, how we can celebrate this holiday.  BUT, once again, this doesn’t mean we can’t do it in fun and fabulous style. Hey, romance is a capital affair, and we need to make the most of it.

The trick, of course, is to dive into the occasion and go for the big time love celebration.

Here are 5 suggestions to help start kindling those romantic flames.

All Things Chocolate

Need we say anymore? Okay, we will, because who doesn’t like talking about chocolate. Chocolate's 4,000-year history began in ancient Mesoamerica. It is here… Ha, wait, maybe that’s too much information. Instead of the history of chocolate, why not just check out this list of amazing Valentine’s Day chocolates that range from a Toblerone Personalized Swiss Chocolate Bar to a traditional heart-shaped box of chocolates from Vosges.

Food! Food! Food!

How about cooking together?  Or an indoor picnic? Or a bake-off?  (You can even put on fake British accents – or not.) Maybe you can recreate a meal from one of your favorite romantic dates. Now you’re cooking! Can’t you feel the love?

Movie Marathon

I always say there’s nothing like some romantic binging to set the mood. Then again, I say a lot of things. Given the day,  my thinking is pop up some corn and zip over to Netflix and stream the love.

Plus a bonus. Because we love you, here is a link to 26 of the Best Valentine’s Movies Ever Made.

Home Spa

Relaxing baths are nice.  You can also give each other massages and go wild on those stress relieving oils.

Get Outside!

We’re talking a romantic sled ride, or bundling up in the backyard, or getting out and taking a nice long romantic walk, maybe going on a hike, or skating, or spending a romantic evening under the stars. Fun! Plus, healthy. There’s nothing like the great outdoors to inspire some cuddling.

Bonus Suggestion – Try Some of This Stuff

Woohoo bonus random ideas! In case any of the above aren’t doing it for you two lovesick kids, how about trying one (or some) of the following?

·         Listen to music together

·         Read together

·         Enjoy puzzle games together

·         Breakfast in bed

·         Play quiz games

·         Dance (preferably together)

·         Enjoy wine and cheese

Happy Valentines, lovebirds!
