Health Equity isn’t just something we talk about.

It’s who we are.

Welfie was founded by Steve Moyo and Nneka Edwards, two black doctors who grew frustrated watching patients who looked like them die sicker and younger.

Only the best for Welfie!

Steve and Nneka teamed up with educators and Emmy Award-winning children’s content creators so they could help people take control of their own health.

And Kids!

We realized pretty early on that if we were going to change the world, we need the help of kids!

Kids are the most disruptive force in the universe!

Kids make social change happen fast. In fact, almost every successful social movement of the last century has only taken off when children took it on.

Think:

  • Recycling

  • Smoking

  • Seatbelts

  • The environment

Kids first!

That’s why we’re concentrating on schools and it’s why we put children at the center of everything we do. Help a kid better manage her health and she’ll make sure everyone in her family does it too.

So how does Welfie advance health equity?

We try and bridge the gaps between the healthcare that’s needed and the healthcare that is available by:

  • putting the power back into the hands of the family, giving them tools and resources to better manage their health journey through The Welfie (hyperlink to welfie page)

  • providing culturally competent, Interventionist content that helps someone better manage their own health and the health of their families

  • helping school administrators get health insights that lift up the whole of their communities

We also make sure that black and brown people, women, LGBTQ and others too often left behind are represented in healthcare:

  • as users:

    • We use our insights and anonymized data to help policy makers and those in the health care industry better understand underserved communities

  • as providers:

    • We create in school and community programs where underserved communities can see people who look and live like them thrive in science careers.

Welfie is working for a day when everyone has access to the healthcare they need and when systemic racism is a thing of the past. We know how important it is.

We are black, women, & veteran led. We are the people we serve.
